We have seen many good projects become too institutionalized and then slowly start loosing the capacity to take risks, to transform themselves. So we have come to believe that imagination should not have a fixed point. It can gravitate around certain areas of strong interest, around certain compelling territories—like strange attractors in chaos theory—but the moment it decides to stay very still and very safe it becomes very heavy, like concrete. And in the realm of the mind what does not move: is very dead.
Which is why Tóxico has decided to base itself on a movable structure. To avoid deadness. We move constantly, regroup, change spaces, make more and more allies, depending on the project at hand. Since we have a strong and growing relationship with Mexico City´s most important museums and art spaces, with international embassies and forward-looking institutions and leading universities, we can have continuity and solidity and very high standards, but still remain light and fast and flexible.
In this way the project is thought up from the inside out, it is the content which creates the form and not the other way round. Creativity must emerge from the structure of things themselves.
And then, instead of defending territories we create new ones. Constantly.
